Nov. 4th Meeting Summary


I. Call to Order
This meeting of the Omicron Kappa Chapter was called to order at 4:09 pm, by President Emily Brant.
II. Introduction
The opening prayer was given by Secretary Matthieu Galizia.
President Emily Brant also welcomed the new members in attendance, then conducted an Icebreaker Activity to help the members to better know each other.
Then, everyone turned in their resumes that they were to compile as homework over the previous couple months. These were given to Mrs. Stewart for evaluation.
III. Devotional
The Devotional was given by Vice President Robert Stewart. He began with an introduction alluding to the upcoming movie, the Hobbit. He then connected the character of Gollum to being obsessed. He warned us against this, and gave a few scriptures, particularly in the book of Matthew, supporting the idea of not becoming obsessed over things of this world. He encouraged the members to store up treasures in heaven, not favor worldly items.
IV. Business
Secretary Matthieu Galizia then passed out the minutes from the previous meeting. He summarized them, and asked for any corrections or suggestions, before a vote approved the minutes.
He additionally asked any new members who had not contacted him with their information for the roster to do so sometime that evening.
President Emily Brant then talked a little about the Member Notebooks, and talked about their efficiency. She took the place of New Members Coordinator EJ Hewitt in taking orders from the new members for the notebooks.
Community Service Chair Rachel Fessenden then debriefed the members on the last volunteer project at the Ronald McDonald House. She followed by explaining what the Ronald McDonald House was and what it did.
Henry Frame gave a treasury update and talked about the importance of fundraisers. He posed the question, do we want to do a fundraiser to raise money, or just pay a little into the general fund to help. Mrs. Stewart explained why we need the money and what it would do.
Everyone then signed a card for the staff member Chris who helped during the service day.
V. Announcements
Mrs. Janzen talked about awards you can receive as a high-schooler. Included were the Congressional Award, the National Honor Roll, and the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. She then recognized members who had achieved awards in the latter. These members were:

She also mentioned the costs for participating in these projects.
Then all the members traded resumes for revision and suggestions. This was followed with a Q&A section about resumes. Advisor Mrs. Janzen also gave some info about resumes, and why they are important.
VI. SAT/PSAT Preparation
President Emily Brant then gave an announcement about the next meeting regarding the next homework assignment, the 25 minute prompt essay.
VII. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 5:17 pm, by President Emily Brant. Henry Frame prayed for the meal that was to follow.
Officer Meeting
The officer meeting began with all the officers talking about their actions recently. Robert Stewart also talked a little about an opportunity for a scholarship presentation in the future. President Emily Brant presented the idea of a social opportunity during Christmas, a game/fun night for the members, to take place during a time between Christmas and New Year’s. There was also a progress report, including feedback about improving functions in the group. Secretary Matthieu Galizia asked for any thoughts about the resume activity during the regular meeting.
