I. Introduction
Our meeting
was called to order at 5:06 pm, by President Emily Brant who gave the
introduction.
That was
followed by the opening prayer given by Mrs. Brant.
Vice
President Robert Stewart started out the meeting with a fun, ice breaking
activity to help the members to get to know each other
Kara
Schmidt gave the devotional. She talked about how we should to share the Gospel
with others with God’s strength. She pointed out that it is not because we are
special on our own that we should speak to others, we are acting with God’s power.
She also said that when we trust in God’s strength, we can do anything. She
encouraged others to unashamedly share the gospel.
II. Business
Secretary
Matthieu Galizia gave information regarding the new roster. He also provided
examples of the new roster for the members to see.
President
Emily Brant talked about the new members notebooks, and encouraged the new
members to take a look at them.
Parliamentarian
Gabby Brant stated the requirements for being a member in good standing. She
reminded the group that being in good standing has many benefits.
President
Emily Brant ended this section by asked the officers to give a brief
description of their jobs.
III. Announcements
Kara
Schmidt encouraged members to spread the word about the group.
Community
Service Chair Rachel Fessenden announced the upcoming community service event
at the Ronald McDonald House in Portland .
She also handed out sheets to document the amount of time spent in community
service by each member.
IV. Leadership Presentations
Select
members of the Society then talked about different opportunities for leadership
they had participated in during the summer. Speakers and topics were as
follows:

Willsea: County Fair 4H small animal supervisor

V. Scholarship Presentations
Several
members described the most important classes they took in High School.
Bethany
Janzen: Mrs. English’s Literature and Writing classes.
Nathaniel
Tilp: Everything is valuable, but electives you choose will help you grow as a
person.
Emily Brant:
Writing is needed in everything.
VI. SAT/PSAT Preparation
Advisor
Mrs. Stewart talked about the value of taking the PSAT during the early years
of High School. She also pointed out the deadlines of taking the test, and explained
the value of taking it. She said that it is a very important opportunity to
take the SAT, and sometimes colleges also require the SAT 2 (or the SAT Subject
Test).
VII. Homework Assignment
President
Emily Brant then talked about the upcoming homework assignment. The members
were to write a college resume, due next regular meeting, sometime in November.
VIII. Adjournment
After a
motion by the members, President Emily Brant adjourned the meeting at 6:01 pm.
Sergeant at Arms Evan Lundberg prayed for the meal that was to follow.
IX. Officer Meeting
All of the
officers talked about their current activities, and the attendees gave their
opinions of the regular meeting that had just occurred. Former President Bethany
Janzen also talked about different things the President and the other officers
could do to improve their efficiency.
Also
discussed were the potential topics of scholarship presentations and opportunities
to be presented in later meetings. There was additionally a discussion on ideas
for community service and social events.
Those in
attendance also voted upon the date for the upcoming service day.
October 27,
2012 received the majority of the vote.
